Local Heroes originated in Kentucky in 2017 to complement the existing Click It or Ticket nationwide campaign. Local Heroes is a community-centered, multimedia campaign featuring state and local law enforcement to help reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths resulting from inadequate or improper use of seat belts.
After implementing Local Heroes, Kentucky’s seat belt usage rate increased from 86.8 percent to 89.6 percent.
One hundred ten law enforcement agencies have participated in the Local Heroes campaign since 2017.
Forty-four counties have been represented in the Local Hero campaign since in 2017.
